Pawsitively Purrsuasive was a book written by Sly Cat. Like his previous book, it was filled with false statements. However, buried within the text were surprisingly useful hints for those trying to find Tortuga.

The book was sold for a gold nugget.

Reqll criticized Pawsitively Purrsuasive for potentially leading people to their deaths and called on the Priesthood of Eris to ban the book, but his advice was ignored.

Hey. Listen up. Got some tips for you that just might save you some time...and maybe your life.

The first thing you put on a bow should be Mending, even if you're short on arrows. I mean, you can always add Infinity later.

It takes forever to get out of spawn. A fun shortcut is just to jump off the side. Go ahead, I dare ya!

If you're doing the Lava Cave, bring your best diamond gear with Fire Protection enchantments. You don't lose it when you die.

Heard about Tortuga, the hidden treasure shop? I've been there. To be honest, it was a letdown. No toy mice or catnip anywhere in the place. How do you get there? Well, remember what I said last time about the flying boat in Sanctuary? Turns out I was right on, just a year or so off. But I heard their beds are filling up quick so be sure to grab one.

Top Survivor is really just a fancy way of tracking Time Played. So don't worry about dying, it adds all your lives together!

If you're heading out of Hammerlea on the railroad, remember that you can get out of your minecart whenever you want and it'll stay right there. Pretty cool, huh?

Ever see a neat looking island floating real high up in the sky? They have treasure and a free beacon. Sure, there's a few baddies inside, but if you've got leather armor and a decent stone sword you'll be fine. Easiest loot ever.

The desert is just one big litter box, so watch your step. And if you see some zombies wearing tan clothes, just wait them out until dawn. They'll burn like any other zombie!

Tortuga? You're still bugging me about that? Sigh. Do another clean sweep of that nightclub, then talk to the guy in the shades. And whatever you do, don't consider buying that drink he sells...doesn't taste like any milk I ever had. But the flower gives a better buzz than catnip. You'll sleep like a kitten. Speaking of...

Now beat it. Time for my nap.

Behind the Scenes

The following is out-of-universe information about the real world Dragonhollow.

Tox wrote Pawsitively Purrsuasive for the Finding Tortuga quest after early beta testing reports suggested some players were getting stuck and confused by all of the red herrings. He placed an additional line in Cassandra's Thoughts that prompted players to find Sly Cat.

To make it tricky, most of the "tips" in the book are either inaccurate or completely wrong and likely to get a player killed if followed. For example:

"The first thing you put on a bow should be Mending, even if you're short on arrows. I mean, you can always add Infinity later."

  • As of Minecraft 1.11.1, the Mending and Infinity enchantments became mutually exclusive, though in Dragonhollow players could purchase the Infinimend bow.

"It takes forever to get out of spawn. A fun shortcut is just to jump off the side."

  • This is actually a true statement, but many players were reluctant to try it because when Sanctuary was first introduced in 2016, jumping off of the side of the isles would transport you high above Pandora where you would fall to your death unless you were able to glide with elytra. Retro introduced a large safe zone around Hammerlea that negated fall damage, making it safe to fall from Sanctuary to the ground below.

"If you're doing the Lava Cave, bring your best diamond gear with Fire Protection enchantments. You don't lose it when you die."

  • Totally false. Fire Protection offers negligible defense against lava and players dropped their inventory if they died within the parkours.

"Well, remember what I said last time about the flying boat in Sanctuary? Turns out I was right on, just a year or so off. But I heard their beds are filling up quick so be sure to grab one."

  • This is helpful information for the Finding Tortuga quest if you get stuck. It reaffirms that the airship Oneiros is essential and that the boat's beds are important.

"Top Survivor is really just a fancy way of tracking Time Played. So don't worry about dying, it adds all your lives together!"

  • Wrong. Top Survivor tracked consecutive days alive and reset upon each death, so a player with a thousand hours played on the server who died every hour would be listed behind a player who had only played a few hours but never died.

"If you're heading out of Hammerlea on the railroad, remember that you can get out of your minecart whenever you want and it'll stay right there."

  • This was a joke referencing an ongoing bug that Retro and Tox were unable to solve for months. The bug made it impossible for players to break a minecart on the railway, meaning that whenever they disembarked their minecart would continue on without them.

"Ever see a neat looking island floating real high up in the sky? They have treasure and a free beacon. Sure, there's a few baddies inside, but if you've got leather armor and a decent stone sword you'll be fine. Easiest loot ever."

  • As any Dragonhollow veteran could tell you, this is a dangerous lie. While Hyper Dungeons did have treasure and a beacon, they were defended by deadly enemies that could kill players wearing Protection IV diamond armor in only a few hits.

"The desert is just one big litterbox, so watch your step. And if you see some zombies wearing tan clothes, just wait them out until dawn. They'll burn like any other zombie!"

  • Husks do not burn in sunlight.

"Do another clean sweep of that nightclub, then talk to the guy in the shades. And whatever you do, don't consider buying that drink he sells...doesn't taste like any milk I ever had. But that flower gives a better buzz than catnip. You'll sleep like a kitten."

  • Again, Sly Cat provides actual help for the Finding Tortuga quest. He emphasizes that Satan's Alley is key to the quest and that you should buy a flower from Morpheus. It also clears up a red herring introduced from Cassandra's Thoughts that implies Milk of the Poppy is crucial to the quest. Finally, the italicized sweep hints that "brooms" and the broom closet play a role.

Tox tried to capture the same style Acey used when she wrote The Underground, even borrowing a couple of Sly Cat's phrases.
