The Witch Tree was a Hyper Dungeon in the Summerlands during Dragonhollow's Fourth Era.
It was the only location in Dungeon Quest that was never discovered and raided.

—Gabault and Tox deduce the Witch Tree is still out there

The Witch Tree was a massive birch tree with a hollowed out trunk.
The trunk was divided into three separate levels, each populated with smaller birch trees and a single treasure room encased in obsidian to prevent raiders from simply grabbing the treasure without battling the dungeon defenders.
The lowest level contained a yellow beacon supported by a diamond pyramid, though the beam shone lime green above the dungeon. The beacon was protected from above by an unbreakable barrier block forcing raiders to mine through the protective obsidian sheath in order to acquire it.
Each level was defended by endermites and a single witch sub-boss.
Enemies[]
All regular mobs could spawn inside the dungeon due to low light levels.

There were two treasure chests hidden within the dungeon.

Behind the Scenes[]
The following is out-of-universe information about the real world Dragonhollow.
The names of the dungeon's enemies are references to Troilus and Cressida, a tragic play written by William Shakespeare. The play draws heavily on Greek mythology which also inspired much of the background lore of Dragonhollow. For example, a key figure in the Finding Tortuga questline was Cassandra, who also appears in both Troilus and Cressida and the Iliad.
Because the Witch Tree was one of the earliest Hyper Dungeons built by HyperSilence, it wasn't as complex or polished as some of his later designs. The witch sub-bosses were originally intended to drop powerful potions and the dungeon's leaves—both on the main tree itself and the smaller variants inside—rapidly disappeared because they were set in the 'decay' state.
A book provided the following background information about the dungeon:
"The inspiration for this dungeon originally had a lot more...creativity to it. Honestly. I was simply going to make three floors, each with one witch boss, that would as a prize drop an “OP” potion, such as Resistance 20, or so on. But I couldn't figure out how to do it. ): THEN, I wanted to just make the potions and then place them in a chest as a prize, but I couldn't figure out how to put the lore on the actual potion itself, so, whatevs. Idea abandoned. However, there's still three OP witches, just with less OP drops. The names of them are inspired off an old story, I'm sure you'll figure it out. A friend of mine chose these names. Have fun!" | ||
