Discordia

Discordia was a place of chaos and anarchy.

Discordia was a realm that existed as a state of pure chaos and anarchy where entropy reigned supreme. It was said to be a reflection of its creator, the immortal goddess of discord Eris. Discordia may merely have been another name for the universe.

According to the scripture of the Priesthood, during the Ancient Era long before Dragonhollow was created, all of time and space was encompassed in a plane of existence known as Discordia, a turbulent place constantly shifting and changing based on the whims of its shaper Eris. Entire worlds came into being and blinked out of being in an instant. Nothing was static.

Eventually, her search for perfection crystallized in her crowning achievement, the priceless jewel of her universe, Dragonhollow.

It is unclear what happened to Discordia after that point. Some have suggested that the realm was the total absence of order and that Eris' creation of the known universe brought it to its natural end. Others believe that this does not adequately explain the existence of many other worlds in the universe. Some scholars suggested that Discordia was simply one of many dimensions that made up the entirety of the universe, one controlled solely by Eris.

The Cult of Benly has its own interpretation. They claim that what was once a harmonious realm was twisted and corrupted by the trickster Eris into a place of death and discord for the sole purpose of amusing her dark sense of humor. Fearing that the pure pandemonium of Discordia would spread across the stars, Ymir led the other deities against Eris, imprisoning her within Pandora's Box and remaking Discordia into the structured universe as it is known today.

Behind the Scenes[]

The following is out-of-universe information about the real world Dragonhollow.

Discordia was the Latin name for Eris, the Greek goddess of discord.

It is also referenced in Discordianism, a modern religion centered on the idea that chaos is as important as order, and in the religion's holy book, Principia Discordia.

Much of the background lore for Dragonhollow is based on an odd melding of Greek mythology and the modern Discordianism.
